What Mat says counts | Sachsenring
#20 | Matew Scholtz | Sachsenring
I have really fond memories of this track, as this is where my first qualification round was for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. I love the track as it is one of my best to race on.
In free practise I was really happy that I ended up in 3rd spot because the race before Sachsenring was Assen and I had a terrible weekend there. I went back home and trained really hard so I was glad to see everything had paid-offIn qualifying things went pretty well and I felt comfortable with the pace I was running, even though I ended up 7th. I was still confident for the race as I knew I could step the pace up because I had found a really good setting for the bike towards the end of Qualifying 2.The race on Saturday ended up being wet and we had no time practising in these tricky conditions, so the opening few laps I just wanted to find my rhyme. Once I felt I had found a good pace I started to make my way through the pack (helped by a few crashes).

At one stage of the race I was having a good battle with Danny Kent and Deane Brown. Deane crashed which made things a little easier for me because now I was only battling for 2nd with one rider; Danny.
I passed Danny into the first corner on the last lap and from there on I was trying to brake as late as possible so that Danny could not pass me. Danny managed to pass me into the second to last corner. Going into the final corner I was going to try and out-brake him but he braked so late and luckily for me he ran wide and unfortunately he high-sided and crashed. I managed to grab a second overall which I was really happy with.
