Moto School

Phakisa Superbike Track School | Moto Track School | 6/7 Feb 2010 | Superbike Track School

Track schools have been around for some time now. With different people coming for different reasons, these so called track days are really exiting and very interesting. Team Racer Zone visited a ‘Fun Weekend’ held by regular TV star and all round cool guy Andre Neetling.Andre’s super bike track school is called ‘Moto School’. The school has been around for some time now and operates out of Welkom Free state and based at the Phakisa Free way. As you know this track was created to host the legendary Moto GP events some years back. Due to poor management on SA Government side the track was called dormant for international racing.

Back to the track school. Ok, so we arrived Saturday morning at 7am to attend the Riders briefing being held at 8:30. With riders all over SA attending, the crowd was at roughly 110 riders taking part. In riders briefing Andre takes all the track school participants through the rules and regulations, explains the flags, make a couple of briefing jokes. So we are off starting with group A (fast riders) and of course 2 Racer Zone members are riding in this class….he heSo the suits are on and the tyre warmers off, yes guys, track schools are so popular that 60% of riders are using tyre warmers these days. Green flags are out…so the event starts. Groups A-D do the rounds and the phonominal thing for me was the amount of people in the Intermediate groups. Riders riding in the intermediate group are mostly riders that are regular road riders but, it might be only their second or third time on the track.
This makes me happy as a biker due to the fact that it shows people understand the dangers on the open roads these days. The experience they obtain on the track helps any rider understand his suspension more, raises awareness of their surroundings, entry and exit points off turns and more. The friendly instructors are always there to assist and make you feel safe. Safety is obviously the keyword in riding any motorcycle.
Big bikes, small bikes, kids and adults were all having a blast on the track. Walking through the pits I could see some relaxed riders and even some guys taking the day very seriously. Moto School Superbike track days are fun for everyone! Championship riders to amateurs can all pick up good riding techniques and tips from each other whilst having a great day on the track!
