Silverstone upgraded for 2010 Moto GP racing!
Yes yes we know Silverstone has never been a ‘real’ motorcycle racing circuit. Changes to the track will ensure that it will be a ‘proper bike circuit’ that is rewarding for both riders and fans alike when the MotoGP tour arrives there next summer in 2010 – This all conformation from the track managing director Richard Phillips.
In the start of 2009 Silverstone agreed to a five-year deal with MotoGP commercial and television rights-holder Dorna Sports to welcome the premier class from 2010 onwards, with 2010′s race set to be held over the weekend of 18-20 June 2010. The arrangement marks the first time in more than two decades that the pinnacle of international motorcycling will take place at the celebrated ‘Home of British Motor Racing’.
Initially, the announcement had the purists up in arms that a true riders’ circuit in Donington Park had been abandoned in favour of one far less testing of competitors’ abilities.
With over £5 million of improvements are underway it seems positive that the track will be challenging the riders to the maximum of their abilities.
Track owners also commented that the riders are very excited about it, and the fans seem to be queuing up to buy tickets already!
Something to look forward to in 2010.
