Motorbikes Maintenance Tips

All motorbikes need certain amounts of maintenance so that they can be kept running in great condition. Even though modern bikes are made to be more reliable than ever, they still have to be paid some attention and cared for. To get the best performance and safety from motorbikes, simple, on-going tasks should be carried out. This guide outlines details of how to keep you motorcycle in the best condition possible.

The Brakes

Check brake fluid reservoirs regularly. Moisture is easily absorbed by brake fluid, which means it is best to use a brand new bottle of it each time. If you want improved brake performance, rather than using stock brake lines, install the braided variety.

Tyres

Check tyre pressure regularly and make sure they are kept inflated correctly. Pencil-type tyre gauges can be used until you get a feel for the inflation level. If the tread is more than 2mm deep, it is time to replace the tyres. If you don’t, your safety will be at risk, and traction will become an issue.

Shaft, Chains, Belt

Each time you fill up with fuel, use a chain spray to lubricate chains. Replace the shaft oil every time the engine oil is changed. The belt should be clean all the time and its tension must be check regularly.

Oil

Many people disagree on when engine oil has to be changed. However, it can be said that you should change it every 3 months. Fresh oil ensures a healthy and long-lasting engine. You can get an idea of when it will need changing by checking the levels regularly. Keep the oil levels as close to the maximum level at all times.

Battery Charge

Check your battery is charged to 100% once a month. Charge is lost rapidly in motorbikes, so it is very important to ensure that the battery is cared for when the bike is not being ridden.
