125cc Moto GP will be replaced with 250 Single Four stroke Machines |Effectively 2012

125 GP racing will turn to 250 single four stroke Machines.
With the great success of the Moto2 formula (previously the 250 2 stroke class). It has been made official that the 125cc class still running will indeed be replaced with 250 four stroke single machines. The news was made final after the Assen round this year. The rule will commence in the 2012 Mot GP season.

The decision is always budget related and so it was in fact decided, four stroke machines last longer and can now perform just as well.
Given that the current range of motocross 250s produce in the region of 45 rear-wheel horsepower with a narrower bore and much longer stroke, the new “Moto3″ bikes are likely to produce something in the region of 50 horsepower, not a million miles from what a racing 125cc bike produces. What that means in terms of speed remains to be seen, as the additional weight of a four-stroke lump will likely be a disadvantage.

Moto 3 will most certainly be just as exiting and close as ever!
